In my previous post, I wrote about how Solution Grove, using an integration of its previously developed ecommerce registration module based on dotLRN and Moodle, answered its client's need to have a system where students enroll for a course and the teacher approves their application.

In this post, we will go right into the details of the application process.

Requirement No. 2: "Applications" -  Students submit requested information as they enroll for a course and the teacher reviews the students' data to be able to accept them into the course.

Upon selecting their desired course, students submit the necessary information that the teacher may use as basis in reviewing their application.  Upon review of the student information, teacher decides if the student can be accepted into the course.

The Solution:

We have added into the system the forms that will be used to collect the necessary student information which may be used in the review of their application.  The forms can be customized, without any programming knowledge,  on a per course basis and can be re-used and shared across different courses.

The following are some of the forms used in data collection:

Teachers may set or control the number of students that they want to accept into the course.  Thus, if the maximum number of students allowed in a course has been reached, future registrants will be put on the waiting list.  More details about this will be discussed in my next post.

During the entire process of the course application, students receive different types of email notification.  Some request additional student information, others contain instructions about how to log on to the course, yet others contain important information that may be helpful for the student while he/she applies for the course.  Once a student has been accepted into the course or has been put on pending status, they will automatically receive an email notification informing them that they are candidates for the course and have the possibility of being accepted into the course.

Benefits:

This gives teachers more control over the applications and gives them a convenient way of reviewing student qualifications.  Teachers or administrators can use their discretion to decide who is accepted into the course and who is not.
