Admin Procedure When User Login Fails

Failure in User Log In

When a user cannot log in or get access to a site, the Administrator may take the following procedure:

  1. On your browser, go to "http://<yoursite>/admin"

  2. Under Core Services, click on SITE-WIDE ADMINISTRATION, and then click on USERS. Or you may click straight on USERS under Site-Wide Administration.
  3. This will bring you to the Users page.

  4. As an alternative and quicker way to go to the Users page, you may simply type "http://<yoursite>/acs-admin/users" directly on your browser's address bar.
  5. On the Users page, search for the user by typing the user's name or email address on the space provided for Quick Search.
  6. Click FIND USER. This will bring you to the User Search page where the name and email address of the user that matches the specified criteria is displayed. If the user name or email address specified is not correct or valid, the message "No users found" is displayed on the User Search page.
  7. Click on the user name and email address. This will bring you to the user's detail page or the one-user admin page.
  8. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click RESET THIS USER'S PASSWORD. This will auto-generate a new password for the specified user's account and send an email notification containing the new password.

  9. You may log in using that user name and the new system-generated password to check.
  10. When all is working, the user may now log in using the new password.

Resetting vs. Changing Passwords

In cases where you have instantaneous communication with the user, it may be better to directly change the password rather than resetting it. Thus, the user may log on immediately after the password has been changed.

  1. To do this, after you have searched for the user and opened that particular user's detail page (or the one-user admin page), scroll down to the bottom and click UPDATE THIS USER'S PASSWORD.
  2.  Clicking the UPDATE THIS USER'S PASSWORD link will bring you to the UPDATE PASSWORD page where you may specify the new password.

  3. Make sure you type the same information for the NEW PASSWORD and CONFIRM fields.
  4. Click UPDATE to proceed. Clicking UPDATE will also bring you back to the one-user admin page.
  5. Click log in as this user to check.
  6. When all is working, user may now log in using the user name and updated password.

When resetting or changing passwords won't work

When all these fails, that is when resetting or changing the password still results to failure in user log in, the administrator may take the following procedure:

  1. Log out as administrator and log in as that user yourself using the password you have just set it to.
  2. When log in is successful, go to MY ACCOUNT tab and click CHANGE MY PASSWORD to try to change the password with you as the user.

  3. Indicate the Current Password as well as the New Password. Make sure you confirm the New Password by typing the same information on the NEW PASSWORD and CONFIRM fields.
  4. Click UPDATE to proceed. When password update is successful, you will be brought to the user's profile.

  5. You may log out and then log in again to check for validity. When successful, the user may now log in using the user name and the new password you have just set.
