The Los Angeles Unified School District

The Los Angeles Unified School District Facilities Services Division (http://laschools.org/) is responsible for the construction of new schools and the modernization of existing facilities in the Los Angeles Unified School District. SolutionGrove supports their efforts with two initiatives: the Maintenance and Operations Department Web site and with a Labor Compliance Tracking application.

Maintenance and Operations Department Site

SolutionGrove used information from interviews with managers in the Maintenance and Operations department to propose how OpenACS could assist the department in collaboration, content management, and work management. We then worked with the department to implement and roll out 12 modules for use by the department:

  • Site Slide Show [1] - Click on the numbers to see screen shots of the site.
  • Information Dashboard [2] - Users use the map to drill down on the appropriate school. From there, they can access school-based information such as basic facts, detailed floor plans, and outstanding maintenance requests.
  • Content Management [3] - Selected administrators post and revise documents and links for public or internal use.
  • Maximo Trouble Calls [4] - The system integrates into the Maximo system to provide school department employees a view into maintenance requests.
  • Frequently Asked Questions [5] - Administrators maintain commonly asked questions and answers
  • What's New - News [6]
  • M&O Procedures [7] - Department procedures are maintained online, eliminating the needs to carry, store, and maintain large binders.
  • Materials Safety Data Sheets [8] - Information about approved materials as well as tracking materials through the approval process
  • M&O Contracts [9] - Contracts are uploaded and categorized for easy online access
  • Pesticide List [10] - An approved pesticide list is maintained for the public.
  • Pesticide Notification [11] - The public may request notifications before pesticide use at a given school.
  • Resource Center [12] - Categorized access to the site's documents and other related links.
  • Events [13] - Event posting and registration.
  • Custom Form/Approval [14] - Users fill out customized forms requesting access like access badges, building access, parking tickets, and property removal. Each customized form has its own approval process.
  • Access Control [15] - OpenACS's finely-grained permission service allows for great flexibiltiy in controlling access to modules and administrative rights.
