The Museum of Science, Boston, is expanding its educational offerings to include not just the informal (non-credit) courses offered through its Courses program, but a full spectrum of on-site, off-site, and on-line offerings, including for-credit courses, delivered to the general public, Museum of Science members, and educators throughout Massachusetts, New England, and beyond. This is a core component of the National Center for Technological Literacy (NCTL) at the Museum of Science (see http://www.nctl.org), as well as in establishing the Museum as a nationally recognized Center for Learning.
eCommerce, course registration, and Learning Management software are critical components of the growth strategy, and SolutionGrove was chosen as a partner to provide the platform that support them in achieving the strategy.
The software supports use cases beyond what you would expect in a traditional course registration system:

Shopping Cart - with membership purchase and discount - Larger View: [2]
- One user ordering for another: In this setting, parents often order for one or more children. The system supports one person as the purchases, with another person as the participant. In fact, in one order, a parent can order for several different children.
- Museum memberships: The system is integrated with the museum membership database. Customers may order museum membership and/or apply their membership number for a discount.
- Prerequisites: Customers may apply for exceptions if they do not meet requirements such as age. The administrator or instructor may then evaluate the application and accept or reject the application.
- Waiting List Management: The system will take waiting list applications after the registration limit is reached. If another person drops out of the course, the customer is automatically invited back to register for the course.
- Donation: The system asks if the user would like to make a donation during checkout.
- Online and off-line courses: Both online and live courses are supported.
